At the age of seventeen years, he moved to Vienna in 1787; Vienna became his hometown for his entire life. Although he stayed in Vienna for a considerable period in his life, he had moved to Bonn upon hearing that his mother was about to die. He stayed in Bonn for five years after which he finally went to Vienna where he lived and worked before moving to a secluded village. His grandfather (Louis van Beethoven) used to work at the Elector’s court in Cologne. Ludwig van Beethoven died in 1827 at the age of fifty six years (Viegas 8-32).

Beethoven’s father used to be a drunkard who used to force Ludwig to play the violin so that he could entertain him while drunk. It is the playing of the musical instruments that made him develop a passion for music. Despite the fact that the teaching methods that his father used could be regarded as brutal, Ludwig started to portray that he could become a promising musician. By the time he was seven years old, he had gained the courage to perform in public. Beethoven started to perform in public at the age of seven years. At the age of eight, Ludwig got the support of composer Christian Neefe who started training him. As a result, he progressed rapidly, and his knowledge in music was precipitated by joining Bach and Mozart in their works (Viegas 8-32).

When he moved to Vienna, Beethoven experienced life the hard way since his expectations seemed unfulfilled as there were limited opportunities in the city of Vienna. After experiencing some difficulties, the Prince granted him accommodation, and he could sleep on the floor. When he arrived in Vienna in 1792, Haydn, Schenk, Albrechtsberger, and Salieri taught him counterpoint and composition. In addition, he strived to become a pianist and a composer during the same time. He established good relationships with the aristocracy of the town, which assured him of an income. In 1809, he was guaranteed of an annual income with the condition that he stayed in Vienna and would not move to any other town (Viegas 8-32).

During this time, he worked extremely hard to make sure that he mastered the classical style, which was dominant during the early period. When the middle period started during the early years of the 19th century, Beethoven strived to develop the high classical style in order to make it both an individualistic and dynamic style. During this period, he engaged in writing a lot of chamber music, as well as symphonies Nr. 3-8 and piano consert Nr. 5. However, he developed a hearing disorder during this time, which he had noticed at childhood, but it became worse during this period (Dahlhaus 67-100).

In Vienna, Beethoven became famous for his talent and ability in playing the piano. He became wealthy and made a lot of money from his performances on the piano, which attracted many people who came to see him perform. In his early twenties, he was able to live comfortably in the city of Vienna despite the expensive life in the city. However, at the height of his career, he developed suicidal tendencies because of the hearing disorder that he suffered from. In 1802, he moved to Heiligenstadt, an isolated village where he lived and composed from for the rest of his life. Prior to his deafness, he had succeeded in completing a number of piano sonatas, cello sonatas, piano concertos, as well as violin sonatas. He was able to complete his first set of string quartets and immaculate nine symphonies by 1824. From 1800 to 1810, Beethoven gained worldwide fame because of his masterpieces, which spread to most parts of the world (Dahlhaus 67-100).

Ludwig van Beethoven succeeded in outwitting his fellow pianists since he had the capability to play the piano more brilliantly than other pianists. The pianists feared him and some even made him an enemy; however, the novelty always flocked his shows to witness his performances. He held concerts in cities such as Prague, Berlin, among other cities. He secured enough finances and was able to build apartments of his own. He also became a freelance composer and did not entirely depend on patrons. The recognition he gained during his early twenties can be attributed to the skills he had as a pianist, as opposed to his ability to compose. Beethoven became a dominant personality in the music arena of Vienna, and he became an acquaintance of popular musicians and aristocrats (Josephson and Barbara 15-36).

During his time as a composer, Beethoven succeeded in gaining a number of resources, which included Teaching, Concert-giving, Dedications, Pianoforte Playing, as well as Composition. Some of his works included opera; he completed his opera known as Leonore. He also engaged in writing as well as rewriting of various overtures, which amounted to four. Beethoven’s work mainly comprised of the playing of symphonies, instrumental solos, as well as arias. In addition, his work included the playing of choral work as well as concerto (Josephson and Barbara 15-36).

In his entire music career, Beethoven composed ten symphonies. The ninth symphony was played on the May 7, 1824. Despite the difficulties and the problems experienced in this symphony, it became successful. During the last days of his life when he went to the secluded village, Beethoven still composed music. In the secluded village, he attempted to have his own family, but he was not successful. He approached various women some of whom included his former piano students. Although he did not marry, he still lived a contented and happy life.
